The much-anticipated Columbus 1492 restaurant opened Friday, September 14th, 2018 at Days Inn & Suites Lancaster on Lititz Pike in Lancaster PA with a ribbon-cutting and tasting buffet. It was attended by more than 25 people including members of the local community, Lancaster Tourism and Business community, and members of the media.
You can’t miss the 3,500-square-foot restaurant created by Hammock Worldwide®’s newly formed Culinary Arts program and the general manager Rajesh Nagpal. A large Columbus-Ship logo is emblazoned just under the Hotel’s sign, which sits right of Lititz Pike in the central Lancaster PA area. Lancaster is already home to Spook Nook Sports Complex, Dutch Wonderland, and Sight & Sound Theater.
Inside, the expansive restaurant is lined with more than 54 seats. Warm and modern designed decor, mixed with a luxurious gold table setting and solid-wood chairs enhance the restaurant’s theme, apparently to exude an aire of nautical tradition mixed with bright colors of Indian foods.
A huge wall is covered in wood slats with an ocean vessel metal artwork. The slats extend to other parts of the restaurant seating area to keep the design consistent.
Wood-like floors, a dark ceiling finish and metal light fixtures add to the clean, industrial look. The buffet area is structured behind beautiful sliding doors, holding behind them expansive wood-finish countertops.
The menu, created mostly by Columbus 1492’s chef team, includes the traditional Indian fanfare like Chicken Tikka Masala: “a flavorful dish featuring a mix of roasted marinated chicken in a spiced curry sauce, with origins from the Punjab region of India.”
Another feature are a variety of freshly prepared burgers including chicken, lamb, and bison options, blended with a variety of mouth-watering toppings (such as caramel onions on the Lamb Burg or fried egg on the Bison Burg). The Crisper Chicken Burg is topped with lettuce, tomato, and served with signature masala red potatoes.
Other items include Incredible India Curries (vegetarian), and the always famous Tandoor items (chicken & lamb). Sides include pyramids (Samosa), Nanza (Pizza) and Wild West Nachos — a true fusion of regional flavors.
Columbus 1492 also offers a kids menu and a variety of Lassi, Chai, and Juices. There’s even an adults-only drinks with the full bar.
Hammock Worldwide®’s launch of Columbus 1492 is the first Culinary Arts venture for the New Jersey-based company, which is fast-growing hospitality real estate investment group. Hammock Worldwide® started their Culinary Arts division to respond to hotel guest demands for high-quality, unique restaurant options in or near their hotel offerings.
Hammock Worldwide®’s next Culinary Arts restaurant will develop after tracking the performance of this first launch. Potentially, there are six sites already identified in which other Culinary Arts restaurant locations could be opened in the upcoming years. It was stated this is a natural fit considering many of their hotels already have an untapped Food and Beverage infrastructure that is waiting to be utilized. Residents and Business Community members are looking forward to the launch, expected to add approximately six full time positions and four part time positions.
